STAC is pleased to announce that the events held throughout January were successful in bringing the community together and increasing awareness of human trafficking. In fact, STAC helped train and bring awareness to over 350 professionals and community members.
There were over 70 health care professionals, including physicians, dental hygienists, mental health counselors, and people from Leon and surrounding counties that attended the training on Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking.
The faith community event at First Baptist Church included people from many different faiths, STAC, the Tallahassee Police Department, Representative Ramon Alexander, representatives of the Big Bend Coalition Against Human Trafficking, the Salvation Army, and many other community members.
To engage the legal system, STAC brought national experts Kate Mogulescu and Martina Vandenberg to town to train over 70 people in two days on the justice system and how to assist trafficking survivors and bring perpetrators to justice.
One of the last events, an art show and fundraiser at LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts, STAC had issued a Call to Artists for submissions focused on human trafficking. Submissions featured artwork from the community, internationally renowned artist Stuart Riordan, Artworks for Freedom, and our 1st place prizewinner came to us all the way from Hong Kong.
Each year, January’s awareness activities inspire us to know more and to do more to continue the fight to outlaw “modern-day slavery” and to assist trafficking survivors. All of us at STAC look forward to joining with all of you to continue these efforts throughout the year. Thank you again for your support.
