Our hearts go out to all of those who are impacted by Hurricane Ian. These are times where we all have to care for one another – and one way is to help anyone who impacted by this major storm with basic necessities as well as to repair and restore their homes and livelihoods, post-disaster. We need to step up before human traffickers descend to advantage of people who are made vulnerable because of Hurricane Ian. Remember that sex and labor traffickers often pose as someone who can provide food and shelter. Or, they might come in as contractors, luring them into labor trafficking by making promises to people for good jobs doing roof repairs, clearing debris, and then later exploiting and trafficking them. Check out these excellent emergency response resources and post-disaster protocols from the City of Houston on how you can prepare and be on alert.
