Tallahassee State College student Lakendra Reeves is four classes away from receiving her associate’s degree in criminal justice – an accomplishment she never thought she’d make, considering how nearly 20 years ago, she became a victim of sex trafficking.
At the age of 15, the local native thought she was walking into a party with her cousin but instead found herself being led by four men into a Tallahassee apartment complex with a green carpet full of bleach stains, three metal folding chairs, alcohol and no party music.
