DESCRIPTION:Nearly 3 million people in the United States identify as “American Indian or Alaskan Native” (2010 U.S. Census). Due to systemic and historical oppression\, individuals within these communities experience high rates of sexual assault and have high rates of disability. Indigenous survivors of sexual assault who also have a disability encounter unique barriers in their healing journey. Davis was charged with making a local impact on human trafficking in the 4th largest city from a policy-level perspective and by advancing systems change. She developed and implemented Mayor Turner’s Anti-Human Trafficking Strategic Plan\, dubbed the first comprehensive municipal response to human trafficking by a US city. Davis is passionate about helping other cities and designed the Ten/Ten Human Trafficking Response Municipal Fellowship\, a 2-day immersion program for Mayor’s Offices across the US and abroad. This replicated model spans across city departments that range from airports\, health\, police\, procurement\, and neighborhoods. As Chair of the Bid Committee’s Human Rights Sub-Committee\, she engaged 100+ stakeholders in less than four months across eight topics during the bid process to craft a human rights response and helped secure host city designation. She is a past speaker at the United Nations World Humanitarian Summit and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Her work has been covered in the Washington Post\, New York Times\, and numerous other national and international outlets. Davis is a recipient of the prestigious Presidential Award for Extraordinary Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Persons. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Jane Anderson\, Attorney Advisor at AEquitas and Kim Nash\, SANE \nSexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) are invaluable collaborative partners in a prosecutor’s response to human trafficking. Victims of sex and labor trafficking are at risk of serious injury\, as well as short- and long-term physical and psychological health consequences\, and SANEs provide much-needed medical care to these patients. Trafficking investigations and prosecutions are also enhanced by the addition of SANEs to a multidisciplinary team. SANEs document injury\, collect evidence\, and provide critical insight into medical issues and survivor responses to trauma that can educate criminal justice practitioners and jurors alike. \n REGISTER

DESCRIPTION:Most victims of human trafficking do not self-identify or seek help because of the profound and prolonged trauma they experience. Traffickers often deceive victims with false promises of love\, a good job\, or a stable life\, then lure or force them into trafficking; a trafficker may even look like an intimate partner. Recognizing the signs of trafficking and knowing how to offer support is critical in helping a victim heal. By recognizing the frequency at which sex and labor trafficking intersect\, we can allow those with lived experience to identify the commonalities and work to destigmatize and uplift survivor experiences. DESCRIPTION:A Discussion on the ILO’s New Global Estimates of Modern Slavery Report \nNOTE: In-person attendance at this event will be limited to 50 people. If in-person seating is still available\, you will have the option to indicate whether you intend to attend virtually or in-person on the registration form. \nPlease join us for a moderated discussion at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) on the new Global Estimates on Modern Slavery report\, which is a collaboration by the International Labour Organization (ILO)\, the International Organization of Migration (IOM) and Walk Free. \nThe report\, released every 4-5 years\, delves into the global manifestation of modern slavery\, looks at how the situation has evolved\, and what remains to be done if we are to meet our collective goal to end forced labor\, modern slavery\, and human trafficking by 2030\, and to end child labor by 2025. \nDiscussing the findings of the report and its implications for U.S. policy will be Thea Lee\, Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor and Kevin Cassidy\, Director of the ILO Office for the United States and Representative to the Bretton Woods and Multilateral Organizations\, with additional panelists to be announced.
